New Works
These works are the most recently completed. Enjoy!
Works in this collection are done in collaboration with the subjects in the paintings. Each person begins by answering lots of questions about the things they love from favorite colors, foods, and plants to spiritual beliefs, sports, superheroes, hopes and dreams.
Once we've collected lots of objects that symbolize or embody their answers as well as some fun filler materials in the colors they like and may like with their faovrites, we find a base to build on - sometimes it's a wig mesh normally used to start a weave, sometimes a ball cap or other hat. From this point, it is completely up to the subject/person which objects get included and where they will be put on their self-portrait compositions.
Once the headdress is complete, we put it on them and take about 2,000 photos from all sorts of angles and in all sorts of lighting conditions. I go through every one of them and find the best of the best to base my painting on.
The works in this collection are portraits in the traditional sense as well as portraits whose character is shown via the hands. They are in a variety of media drawn or painted from live models and from photographs.
The works in this collection are done without a live model. They are either attractive collections of items painted from life, or animals drawn or painted from photos.
This collection includes art that varies from Classic tradition figure and portraiture to silly mixed media work, as well as drawings and paintings from plaster casts and 2-dimensional representations of plaster casts done by masters of sculpture and of drawing.
I am a great lover of greeting cards! It is such a good feeling to find one with a picture or words that have just that right message. Some of my pieces have been perfect for various occasions, so I started printing them as cards - often with a message, but not always. I still use a few of my pieces this way, but more often now I am creating some works just for the cards. Perhaps one is perfect for that message you've been wanting to send...
